The Project Challenge
Every four years the Wairakei Power Station and steam field, which supplies steam to the power station, are shutdown to carry out essential maintenance on the steam, water and electrical systems. This requires a range of activities including internal inspection on all steam systems to satisfy regulatory compliance requirements.
Our Contribution
For 2022 a large proportion of the prime contractors in the Taupo region were committed to other Power Station Outages so the Geothermal Outage Manager sought recommendations from a colleague - Dynamech were subsequently chosen following advice by Te Rapa Power Station who had received a positive experience working with them previously. The team were engaged for general valve maintenance activities – breaking pipes apart, valve removal and refurbishment, cleaning flange faces, etc. An extensive amount of work had been planned to take place in a tight ten day timeframe, all of which was completed on time and without issue. Dynamech was found to be very competent, obliging and happy to help out on all fronts – they mixed in well with Wairakei’s own team and the other contractors.
A Satisfied Client
“I would just like to acknowledge all the hard work your team put into making the Wairakei Station Outage the success it was. The station was pressurised up on Saturday and, with the exception of a few weeping glands (to be expected after repacks), we did not have any issues at all. I have had many favourable comments about the ‘Dynamech team’ from both my team and our prime contractors. We were all amazed with the general skill level and eagerness to help out other work parties when required, or as they came free. Please pass on a huge ‘well done and thanks’ to your team. We look forward to utilising your services again when the opportunity arises.”
